We looked out the window last week on a rainy day. There was a male pileated woodpecker working one of the older sassafras in the backyard. I figured there was no way it would work, but could not leave photographing him untried. He didn’t seem to mind me at all. Maybe he’s seen me hanging around not eating birds. I took these photos April 18, 2022.
