Friday Flower 17 - pitcher plant

These yellow pitcher plants are blooming at the VOA Gamelands in Beaufort County NC. These carnivorous plants are one of our tallest pitchers. Pitchers are not solely carnivorous, but depend on insect prey to give them needed minerals and other nutrients lacking in the poor soils they occupy. The blossoms are actually insect welcoming, not eating their pollinators. The leafy tube on the right is the bug trap.
