Friday Flower 29 - marsh mallow

This is the marsh mallow season in the swamps of home. Some of these are from the yard and some down the river. Yes, this plant is the source of the name of the candy marshmallow. The sweetened pulp of the root of the plant is said to have first been used for relief of sore throats and to aid healing of wounds by the Egyptians about 2000 BCE.
